Our Mission

Consisting of Ohio’s major steel companies, together with the United Steelworkers, state legislators and state officials, the Ohio Steel Council is a unique organization that is both a part of state government and an advisor to government. The Council aspires to work collaboratively among its members and with other entities to promote a strong, healthy and resilient steel industry. We aim to ensure that the steel industry will continue to be a source of pride, jobs and economic stimulus for the state of Ohio.

Communication

We will maintain proactive and open communication with key stakeholders, including state departments, the state legislature and the governor.

Safety

Our goal is to share best practices and to strive toward improvement, zero accidents and zero injuries.

Public Policy

Our goal is to work with legislators, state officials and the public toward a positive business climate and outlook for Ohio. Toward this end, we will educate these audiences about our industry and how it will be affected by current and pending public policy and laws.

Environment

We will be good stewards of the environment and continue to work toward energy conservation, energy creation, and waste and emissions reduction.

Economic Empowerment

We will educate state officials and the public about the significant and positive impact that steel makes on the economy. Ohio’s steel industry produces and processes steel valued at $6.18 billion per year. Nearly 100,000 Ohio jobs are tied to steel.
