STEELMAKERS EXPRESS CONCERN OVER COSTS AND PENALTIES IN HB 487
Ohio steelmakers are asking members of the Ohio House of Representatives to take a very close look at HB 487 because it contains certain measures that could inhibit business growth, discourage capital investment, and subject all ratepayers to very high energy costs and penalties.

OHIO STEEL INDUSTRY SHOWS STRENGTH WITH GAINS IN CAPITAL SPENDING AND EMPLOYMENT IN THIRD QUARTER, FIRST NINE MONTHS OF 2007
Capital spending in Ohio’s steel industry jumped dramatically during the third quarter of 2007 while employment also showed gains, according to data released from the Ohio Steel Council.

Production and shipments from Ohio’s steel producers declined during the second quarter and first half of 2007 compared with the same periods a year ago, according to newly released data from the Ohio Steel Council.

Members of the Ohio Steel Council are continuing to invest in the state’s economy with expenditures totaling more than $297 million in capital upgrades in 2006.

OHIO STEEL DATA SHOW INCREASES IN SHIPPING AND PRODUCTION, BUT CHINESE IMPORTS ARE A CONCERN
The Ohio Steel Council’s third quarter 2006 data show increases in production and shipping as compared to the same period in 2005. Ohio steelmakers expect orders in 2007 to pick up and the year to shape up as a good one, even while foreign steel imports remain a concern.
