COMMISSION WELCOMES TWO NEW MEMBERS, FIRST ASSOCIATE MEMBER

COLUMBUS, Ohio (June 20, 1996) –  Ohio Gov. George V. Voinovich has appointed Edward R. Caine, newly elected president and chief executive officer at WCI Steel, Inc., and the Ohio Board of Regents has appointed William L. Berry, professor of manufacturing management at The Ohio State University, to the Ohio Steel Commission.

Meanwhile, Edward V. Bull, general manager of Lukens Inc.'s Massillon operations, has been appointed the Commission's first associate member.

Caine, who has more than 35 years of steel industry experience, relocated to Ohio in April to assume the WCI post. He had most recently been general manager of U.S. Steel Corp.'s Fairfield, Alabama Works for five years. Prior to that, he was general manager of quality assurance and customer technical service for U.S. Steel.

Berry teaches at the Max M. Fisher College of Business and is director of the Center for Excellence in Manufacturing Management. Before coming to Ohio State, he held positions at the University of North Carolina and University of Iowa. His expertise includes manufacturing strategy, planning and control systems.

Bull has been with Lukens for two years and its top official in Massillon since November 1995. Prior to joining Lukens, a steel producer based in Coatesville, Pa., Bull worked for 29 years with General Electric Co.

WCI is an integrated flat-rolled steel producer with a wide range of custom and commodity carbon, alloy and electrical steel products. WCI products are used by strip convertors, steel service centers, manufacturers of tubing, pipe and electrical equipment and the automotive and construction industries.

OSU is a comprehensive research university offering nearly 200 undergraduate majors, 132 programs leading to master's degrees and 100 doctoral programs. In addition to its main campus in Columbus, OSU operates regional facilities in Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Newark.

Lukens Inc., based in Coatesville, Pa., is a leading North American specialty steel manufacturer whose operating units supply carbon, alloy and clad plate steels; and stainless steel sheet, strip and plate products.
