OHIO STEEL COUNCIL ELECTS MANOS CO-CHAIR

COLUMBUS, Ohio (October 16, 1998) –  George Manos, vice president-business processes at USS/KOBE Steel Company in Lorain, has been elected co-chairman of the Ohio Steel Council, a group of steel, labor, education and government officials.

Manos succeeds Harold V. Kelly, executive vice president at Republic Engineered Steels, Inc., who held the co-chairman post for more than two years. Both Manos and Kelly have been Ohio Steel Council members since the organization’s founding in 1991. By law, the other co-chairman is the director of the Ohio Department of Development, who is Joseph Robertson.

Manos has been involved in the steel industry for 25 years. Before assuming his present position at USS/KOBE in 1996, he was executive assistant to the president.

He lives in Strongsville with his wife Karen and daughter Leia. He has three grown step children, Ryan, Kristen, and Stacy.

Manos serves on the mayor of Strongsville’s economic development committee. He is also a trustee of the Strongsville Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Strongsville Board of Education.

The Ohio Steel Council, appointed in 1991 by Gov. George V. Voinovich, is a public-private partnership designed to strengthen ties among the steel industry, the state of Ohio and its citizens. The Council's member organizations are AK Steel Corp., Armco Inc. (associate member), CSC Ltd., LTV Steel Co., Washington Steel (associate member), North Star Steel Ohio, Republic Engineered Steels Inc., The Timken Company, USS/KOBE Steel Co., WCI Steel, Inc., Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., the United Steelworkers of America, the Ohio Legislature, Ohio Department of Development, The Ohio State University and Youngstown State University.
