RESOLUTION REGARDING A NEW KILOWATT-HOUR (KWH) TAX CREDIT

WHEREAS, the State of Ohio is the nation’s leading producer and processor of steel; and WHEREAS, the Ohio steel industry in 2004 directly employed more than 15,000 and paid more than $900 million in Ohio payroll; and WHEREAS, the Ohio steel industry is heavily energy dependent and is the largest industrial sector user of energy in the State of Ohio; and WHEREAS, the Ohio steel industry expended more than $220 million in electrical purchases in the State of Ohio in 2004, and WHEREAS, one of the most serious challenges facing the Ohio steel industry is rapidly escalating energy costs; andthe Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council is charged with the responsibility to advise the State of Ohio on issues that have an impact on the State’s steel industry: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Ohio Steel Industry Advisory Council, after due deliberation, hereby requests that the Ohio General Assembly and Governor enact legislation to provide a meaningful credit for self-assessing steel producers against the State’s kilowatt-hour tax.
